Measurement of sound pressure sensitivity of high-frequency microphone using multiple harmonics in intense ultrasonic beams

Intense ultrasonic beams suffer progressive waveform distortion due to the nonlinearity of air, causing numerous harmonics be generated in beam. Since these harmonic pressures can theoretically predicted with sufficient accuracy by Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov model, it is possible obtain pressure sensitivity a microphone at high frequencies. To generate intense waves, planar aperture source 118 mm diameter and resonant frequencies 40 63 kHz was used. A specialized developed tested for receiving high-frequency waves fabricated from single cellular polypropylene (CPP) sheet 50 μm thickness sensing area approximately 13 mm2. Using least first nine harmonics, i.e., those range 567 kHz, demonstrated this study that frequency response CPP has −70 −80 dB re. 1 V/Pa below 400 kHz.
